Performer Biography

Alexander Ghindin, the pianist on this album, was the youngest laureate of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1994 and won the Cleveland International Piano Competition in 2007.

Composition History

Scriabin's First Piano Sonata was completed in 1892 during a difficult period when he was denied recognition and injured his right arm.

Recording & Production

This album was recorded at Wyastone Concert Hall, Monmouthshire, UK, from December 18th to 20th, 2009.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Scriabin's vision became increasingly ambitious, including a "Mysterium" envisaged as a seven-day performance in the Himalayas, incorporating all artforms.
