Déodat de Séverac studied at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he was a composition pupil of Vincent d'Indy and Albéric Magnard, and had piano training with Isaac Albéniz, serving as his assistant.

Déodat de Séverac was greatly influenced by Isaac Albéniz, a Spanish composer, and even completed Albéniz's piece 'Navarra' after his death.
