Francesco La Vecchia, the conductor on this album, gave his first concert at age nine and founded the Orchestra Sinfonica del Lazio and the New World Young Orchestra.

Richard Wagner, who encountered Sgambati's music in Germany, arranged for the publication of Sgambati's first chamber works.
Recording & Production
The Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, featured on this recording, is a rare example in Europe of a completely privately funded orchestra, established in 2002 by the Rome Foundation.
Critical Reception
Sgambati's First Symphony received immediate critical approval, with favorable reviews from composers Edvard Grieg and Camille Saint-Saëns, who called it 'très intéressante et très originale'.

Composition History
Sgambati's Overture for 'Cola di Rienzo' was lost for many years and only recently rediscovered by chance in Rome's Biblioteca Casanatense.
