Bernd Glemser, the pianist on this recording, won prizes in seventeen international competitions and was appointed professor at the Saarbrücken Musikhochschule while still a student.

The world premiere of Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto was given by the German pianist Hans von Bülow in Boston on October 25, 1875.

This album was recorded at the Polish Radio Concert Hall in Katowice from March 20th to 24th, 1995.
Composition History
Tchaikovsky's Third Piano Concerto and the Andante & Finale, Op. 79, were based on discarded sketches for an unfinished symphony in E flat.
Critical Reception
Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto was initially deemed "worthless" and "unplayable" by Nikolay Rubinstein, the influential Director of the Moscow Conservatory.
