Georg Philipp Telemann, one of the most prolific Baroque composers, wrote music for every instrument, even including the posthorn.

Telemann was a cosmopolitan musician, comfortable in all genres of his time, composing arias in Italian style, overtures in French taste, and recorder music blending 'Sturm und Drang' and 'Empfindsamer Stil'.

Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann were born almost in the same year, with Telemann being slightly older, and despite mutual respect, their works represent totally different stylistic conceptions.

Performer Biography

Dan Laurin, born in 1960, has been the Principal Recorder Teacher at the Odense Conservatory, Denmark, since 1980 and is known for his special courses in Baroque musical rhetoric.

None of the duos recorded here were composed specifically for recorders; Telemann's '18 Melodious Canons' were advertised for "two tranJverse flutes, violins or bass viols" to reach a wider audience.
