Did you know?
1/6Composer Biography
Georg Philipp Telemann, a native of Magdeburg, was one of the most famous composers of his time, serving as musical director in Hamburg since 1721.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Telemann's VI Overtures for keyboard indicate his preference for French and Polish music of his time, as suggested by their full title.
Compositional Technique
Telemann's VI Overtures do not follow the French model of the multi-movement overture suite, but instead use a brief three-movement form.
Recording & Production
This solo CD was recorded with the intention of performing Telemann's rarely played VI Overtures using the historical sound of the original 1728 Christian Zell harpsichord.
Composition History
Telemann's VI Overtures for harpsichord are particularly important because there is surprisingly little printed music for solo harpsichord among his extensive output.
Instruments
The harpsichord used for this recording was built by Christian Zell in Hamburg in 1728, and it is one of only three surviving instruments by him.
