Composition History
Telemann transformed the collegium musicum from a social gathering into an institution that organized public concerts and supported church ensembles.
Compositional Technique
Telemann's orchestral suites often adopted the 'goût français' (French style), particularly in the three-part overtures that typically began with a pathetic grave.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Telemann was particularly fond of orchestral suites and often experimented with tone color effects, such as in the Suite in A minor where oboes and recorders interact with strings.
Composer Biography
Georg Philipp Telemann, a prominent German Baroque composer, founded his first collegium musicum in Leipzig in 1702 while studying law.
