Instruments
The baroque oboe used in this recording is a modern copy of an instrument by Stanesby Jr. from around 1720, made by Marcel Ponseele.

Telemann's quartets were highly esteemed by his contemporaries; Johann Joachim Quantz, a famous flutist and composer, praised them as "exquisitely beautiful examples."
Composition History
Telemann's interest in the trio sonata genre grew during his time as Kapellmeister in Eisenach (1708-1712), where some of the earliest sonatas on this recording were likely composed.

Georg Philipp Telemann, a prominent 18th-century composer, believed a quality trio sonata featured equal upper voices and a bass part that participated thematically.
Performer Biography
Andreas Böhlen, the recorder player and director of Compagnia Transalpina, is also a jazz saxophonist and leads several early music and jazz ensembles.
