Performer Biography
Ernst Ottensamer, a principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra since 1983, founded the Wiener Virtuosen in 1995.
Compositional Technique
The Clarinotts use a variety of clarinets, including the bass clarinet, basset horn, and high E flat clarinet, in addition to standard A and B flat clarinets, to achieve different musical colors.

Mendelssohn's Concert Piece for Clarinet, Basset Horn and Orchestra No. 1, Op. 113, was originally composed for the father-son clarinet duo Heinrich and Carl Bärmann.

The Clarinotts share a common grounding in the 'Viennese school' of clarinet playing, which uses a wider bore and thicker wood clarinet to produce a warm, dark, full-bodied sound.
