1/7Recording & Production
The recording of the Hazel Wright Organ presented challenges due to the cathedral's diamond shape, five pipework locations, and temperature variations affecting tuning.
Composition History
Daniel Ficarri's Fanfare-Introduction in D Major was commissioned as the very first piece to be played on the newly-restored Hazel Wright Organ at its private Acceptance Ceremony on February 7, 2022.
Recording & Production
Despite bringing a dozen microphone types, the majority of tracks on this album were recorded with only two, or occasionally four, microphones to achieve clarity and capture the cathedral's acoustics.
Historical Context
The Hazel Wright Organ was seen and heard weekly by millions worldwide on the Hour of Power television program from the Crystal Cathedral for over three decades.
Recording & Production
During recording sessions, the Disneyland fireworks show nearby caused all recording to stop at 9:30 PM.
Instruments
The Hazel Wright Organ consists of 302 stops, 300 ranks (sets of pipes), and 17,106 pipes, making it one of the world's largest drawknob consoles.
Instruments
The Hazel Wright Organ is a combination of three pipe organs: a 1962 Aeolian-Skinner instrument, a 1977 Fratelli Ruffatti organ, and new pipework built by Fratelli Ruffatti.
