The composers, ranging from students to those with established careers, were asked to write a five-minute piece for a specific ensemble of two winds, piano, light percussion, and two or three strings.
Composition History
All thirteen pieces on this album were written for the Composers Ensemble, with eight commissioned for the Brighton Festival and five added for Hoxton New Music Days in 2000.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded at St Silas, Chalk Farm, London, over three days in January 2001.
Performer Biography
Peter Wiegold, the conductor for this album, founded and directed the chamber group Gemini for ten years, pioneering participatory workshops in Britain.
