Launy Grøndahl, a Danish conductor and composer, began his musical journey at age 11, learning violin from the headmaster of a local school.
Compositional Technique
Grøndahl favored rhapsodic forms that present themes in a sequence of contrasts, rather than developing them in an orthodox fashion, similar to a Rondo.
Composer Biography
Grøndahl, the composer, supplemented his violin studies with trumpet lessons, and secured his first professional engagement as a member of a restaurant band in 1904.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Grøndahl's musical language was influenced by his contemporary Carl Nielsen and an older tradition traceable from Niels W. Gade back to Mendelssohn.

The recordings on this album were transferred by Claus Byrith and feature the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Launy Grøndahl himself.
