The Thomanerchor Leipzig, a boys' choir, has been performing in Leipzig's main churches for 800 years, with Johann Sebastian Bach being their most famous Thomaskantor (cantor).

Georg Christoph Biller, the current Thomaskantor, was himself a member of the Thomanerchor Leipzig and became the 16th cantor after Johann Sebastian Bach in 1992.

The Gewandhausorchester has performed with the Thomanerchor Leipzig for over 150 years and serves as its orchestra in residence.
