David Maslanka, the original composer, asked his son Matthew Maslanka to complete his Tenth Symphony if he couldn't, which Matthew did after his father's death.

Composer's Artistic Vision

David Maslanka believed that music appears from a single point, not a conscious thought process, and involved opening the conscious mind to receive impulses from the unconscious.

Composer Biography

David Maslanka, born in 1943, studied composition at Oberlin College Conservatory, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and Michigan State University.

This album was recorded from April 4-6, 2018, in Libby Gardner Hall on the Campus of The University of Utah.

Performer Biography

Scott Hagen, the conductor, is the Director of Bands at The University of Utah School of Music and has led the University of Utah Wind Ensemble in performances internationally.

Composer Biography

Matthew Maslanka, David Maslanka's son, grew up helping his father with music preparation and founded Maslanka Press in 2012 to publish his father's works.
