Yehudi Menuhin, the violinist on this recording, studied the Franck Violin Sonata with his teacher Georges Enesco, who knew the work intimately from its dedicatee, Eugène Ysaÿe.

The other works on this album were composed by two of Franck's pupils, Guillaume Lekeu and Ernest Chausson, both of whom died tragically at an early age.
