Composer's Artistic Vision

As a young man, Tubin showed great interest in Estonian folk music, using it in several early works and later studying it with renewed interest after encountering Bartók's and Kodály's arrangements of Hungarian folk music.

Ludvig Juht, the Estonian double bass virtuoso who commissioned Tubin's Double Bass Concerto, was a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1935 until his death.
