Christos Tzifakis, the guitarist and composer, chose the guitar as his instrument because he believes it unites the worlds of folk music and classical music, reflecting his family's musical background.
Recording & Production
Due to the financial crisis in Greece, the composer Christos Tzifakis had to re-compose the music in a purely instrumental form and record the instruments one by one, a process that took almost two years for editing and mixing alone.
Performer Biography
Christos Tzifakis, the guitarist, was praised by Cuban composer/conductor Leo Brouwer in 1994 for his remarkable technique, with Brouwer stating he 'plays with twenty fingers'.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Christos Tzifakis, the composer, views the 'Odyssey' as a personal journey of self-realisation, experiencing flamenco from the perspective of a traveler carrying both Eastern and Western cultural influences.

This album is a world premiere recording of 'Flamenco Odyssey', featuring Christos Tzifakis on guitar and a number of other musicians including a virtual string orchestra.

The album title, Flamenco Odyssey, reflects the adventurous journey the composer undertook in developing the work, which involved many changes and adaptations.
Composition History
The majority of the work was first presented in 2011 as 'Flamenco Alchemy' at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall, with choreography by famous flamenco dancer Joaquín Grilo.
