Jan W. Morthenson's Unisono for bassoon, live electronics, and harpsichord was commissioned by and written in close cooperation with the performers Knut Sønstevold and Eva Nordwall, with financial support from the Swedish Concert Institute.

Ludwig van Beethoven's Trio in C major was written during his teenage years, between 1786 and 1790, while he was Court Organist for the Elector of Cologne in Bonn.

Performer Biography

Eva Knardahl, regarded as one of Scandinavia's best pianists, made her official debut at age 11, playing three concertos with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and later spent 15 years as the pianist for the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Compositional Technique

Beethoven's Trio in C major shows a stronger Mozartian influence in its motifs and melodies than almost any other work by him, and features two modern aspects for its time: a new theme appearing in the first movement's development and the Adagio leading directly into the finale.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Erland von Koch, a leading Swedish neoclassical composer, uniquely bases much of his work on folk music and, despite occasional experiments with twelve-tone technique, firmly believes melody is the most important component of all music.

Composition History

Beethoven's Trio in C major for piano, flute, and bassoon was forgotten for a long time after its composition in his youth, not being printed until 1888 by Breitkopf & Härtel.
