Vivaldi was associated for much of his life with the Ospedale della Pietà, one of Venice's four famous foundations for the education of orphaned or indigent girls, some of whom were trained as musicians.

Vivaldi was a prolific composer, writing some 46 operas and possibly 40 more, and was also involved as an entrepreneur in their production.
Critical Reception
Vivaldi's work in the opera-house led to a satirical attack by Benedetto Marcello in 1720, depicting Vivaldi as an angel with a fiddle and a priest's hat.
Compositional Technique
Vivaldi wrote about twenty concertos for oboe and strings, plus three for two oboes and many more using the oboe with other solo instruments.
Performer Biography
The Failoni Chamber Orchestra, founded in 1981, is named after Sergio Failoni, a distinguished Italian conductor of the Hungarian State Opera.
