1/7Recording & Production
This album was recorded by Little Tribeca at the Auditorium-Orchestre national de Lyon from February 20 to 22, 2017.
Instruments
The Cavaillé-Coll organ at the Auditorium de Lyon is, outside of Paris, the only large concert hall organ in France.
Instruments
The organ used for this recording is a monumental Cavaillé-Coll instrument, originally built for the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris, and later restored in 2013.
Interpretation
Thierry Escaich, the organist, included short improvised commentaries between pieces to create a link between the very different styles of works on the program, acting as a unifying thread.
Interpretation
Romain Leleu uses different trumpets on the album, including C, D, and B-flat trumpets, and a bugle, to achieve varied timbres and flexibility for different pieces.
Performer Biography
Romain Leleu was inspired to play the trumpet by Maurice André, a master of the trumpet and organ genre, after attending one of his concerts as a child.
Interpretation
Romain Leleu, the trumpet player, chose to record this album to highlight the vocal quality of the trumpet, moving away from its usual perception as a flashy, virtuoso instrument.
