Walckiers' compositions show clear influences from a wide range of composers, including Rossini, Reicha, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Offenbach, Wagner, Onslow, and Berlioz.
Composition History
Walckiers initially made a living by arranging popular operas for one or two flutes for the publisher Schlesinger, which sold very well.
Interpretation
The flautist Alexis Kossenko chose to play a number of historical flutes on this album to reflect the instrument's rapid evolution in sound and technique during Walckiers' lifetime.

Walckiers and his brother, whom he had enlisted in the music corps, were present at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

This album is a four-disc boxset, allowing for the discovery of eight major works by Walckiers, most of which are world premiere recordings, along with solos from his Les Délassements du flûtiste.
