Performer Biography

Hans Leitner, the organist on this recording, has been the cathedral organist and canon at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Munich since autumn 2003, and previously held the same position at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau.

Enjott Schneider, born Norbert Jürgen Schneider, is a prolific composer of film scores, operas, symphonies, and chamber music, and has taught film composition at the Munich College of Music since 1996.

Composition History

Karl-Ludwig Nies's Missa 'Pax Infantibus' was composed in 2002 for the tenth anniversary of the Munich Cathedral Songschool, designed to be performable by both younger and more advanced children's choirs.

Notable Performances

The Sanctus from the Missa 'Pax Infantibus' was performed at a Mass with Pope Benedict XVI in Munich on September 10, 2006.

Compositional Technique

The 'Schwabenkinder'-Messe intentionally adopts the musical idiom of the late 19th century, aligning with the film's historical setting and paying homage to Charles Gounod's 'Cäcilien-Messe'.

Enjott Schneider's 'Schwabenkinder'-Messe originated from his film score for Jo Baier's movie 'Die Schwabenkinder', with some parts composed in 2002 and others added in 2003 to create a complete Mass.
