Composition History
Nicholas Ludford's Missa Feria II and William Whitbroke's Mass upon the square both use melodies by John Dunstable, which were almost a century old at the time of their composition.
Interpretation
The ensemble La Quintina considers the solo sections in Nicholas Ludford's Lady Masses as incomplete notation, which they complete with new "ymaginacions" (improvisations).
Composer Biography
John Dunstable (ca. 1390-1453), the inventor of the "square" used in this album, was praised by Martin Le Franc as the father of the "contenance angloise" (the English manner).

Recording & Production
The two instrumental "Glose" pieces on the album are free improvisations, recorded live, performed on a portative organ by Christophe Deslignes.
