The original singers of the Laudario di Cortona were members of confraternities who held meetings to sing spiritual songs and sometimes went on singing processions through town and countryside.
Composition History
The Laudario di Cortona, an extensive collection of 13th-century songs, was rediscovered in 1876 by a librarian who found the manuscript under a stairway in a room used for storing kindling wood and coal.
Interpretation
ARS NOVA Copenhagen's approach to performing the Laudario di Cortona songs adapts them to the ensemble's voices and to presentation in a modern concert, with arrangements by Paul Hillier.
