Jacques Arcadelt, a Walloon composer born in Namur, completed his apprenticeship in Italy, becoming a key figure in the creation of the Italian madrigal.
Recording & Production
The recording took place in Namur, Grand Manège, in November 2021, with Jérôme Lejeune responsible for artistic direction, recording, and editing.
Composition History
Arcadelt's three surviving polyphonic masses, including the Missa Noe Noe, were published in Paris in 1557 by Adrien Le Roy and Pierre Ballard.

Compositional Technique
Arcadelt's Missa Noe Noe is entirely based on the thematic material of a pre-existing motet, Jean Mouton's motet Noe Noe.

Josquin Desprez, a master of the Ars Perfecta, is featured with his Marian motet Illibata Dei Virgo nutrix, which includes an acrostic signature "JOSQUIN DESPREZ" in its first verse.
