Composer Biography
Before composing string quartets, Beethoven chose the less risky path of the string trio, as he was conscious of the importance of Mozart's and Haydn's works in the string quartet genre.

In the String Trios, Opus 9, Beethoven already imprinted his personal stamp on the Classical style with radical contrasts, concise motifs, and a new approach to sonata form.
Performer Biography
The Trio Arnold is greatly influenced by a decade at the prestigious International Academy founded by Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa.
Compositional Technique
The second trio in Opus 9 continues Beethoven's pioneering role in emancipating the cello, an instrument previously confined to the bass line, by giving pride of place to its high register.
