Composer Biography
The creation of Brahms's last four chamber works, including the Clarinet Quintet, was sparked by the artistry of Richard Mühlfeld, the principal clarinettist of the Meiningen Orchestra.

Performer Biography
Anssi Karttunen, the Finnish cellist who created the new restoration of Brahms's String Quintet in F minor, plays a cello by Francesco Ruggeri from circa 1680.
Interpretation
The String Quintet in B minor, Op. 115, an alternative version of Brahms's Clarinet Quintet, creates a closer effect of integration with an all-string sonority.
