Chopin's Trois nouvelles études were commissioned in 1839-40 for a 'Piano Method' (Méthode des méthodes de piano) designed by Ignaz Moscheles and François-Joseph Fétis.
Composition History
The Op. 10 set of Études is dedicated to Franz Liszt, a Hungarian composer and piano virtuoso, while the Op. 25 set is dedicated to Liszt's mistress, the Comtesse Marie d'Agoult.
