Chris Dench, the composer, was born in London in 1953 but later became an Australian citizen in 1992 and currently lives in Newcastle, NSW.

The work 'driftglass' was constructed gematrically out of the names of Daryl Buckley and Liza Lim, for whom it was a 'belated epithalamion'.
