The Kuhnau project aims to rescue Johann Kuhnau, a composer previously known mainly as J.S. Bach's predecessor, from oblivion by recording his complete vocal oeuvre.

This album is the eighth and final CD in a complete recording of Johann Kuhnau's vocal works, concluding the project in time for his 300th anniversary.
Recording & Production
The recording was made in the Georgenkirche Rötha, featuring a Gottfried Silbermann organ that was inspected and approved by Johann Kuhnau himself in 1721.

Johann Kuhnau's works span a wide range of styles, from 17th-century sacred arias to church cantatas in the Neumeister manner, challenging the view of him as a backward-looking composer.
Performer Biography
Opella Musica, a vocal ensemble, debuted in 2011 and is known for performing Baroque music with small forces to achieve transparent textures.
Instruments
The Gottfried Silbermann organ in the Georgenkirche Rötha, built in 1718-1721, contains 1365 pipes made of 'the best finished English pewter, metal and wood'.
