Joseph Haydn, the famous Austrian composer, was friends with Dussek and wrote a letter praising him as 'the most upright, cultured, and in the art of music, the most excellent man'.

Dussek's early sonatas, including some on this album, often had optional violin parts that could be omitted, making them essentially piano sonatas.
