The F minor Trio, Op. 65, was composed rapidly by Dvořák in February and March 1883, but not without difficulty, as his manuscript shows considerable trouble in deciding its final form.

Dvořák's 'Dumky' trios are characterized by each movement being built on an alternation of slow and fast sections, which is the essence of the 'dumka' form as he practiced it.

The Florestan Trio, the performers on this album, received Britain's Royal Philharmonic Society Award for chamber music in 2000, the first time a piano trio had won this award.
