The Kocian Quartet, founded in 1972, is named after the violin virtuoso and teacher Jaroslav Kocian, a world-famous pupil of Otakar Sevčík.
Composition History
Mendelssohn was unsatisfied with the finale of his String Quintet No. 2, Op. 87, and it was published posthumously without his final corrections, despite compliments from Ignaz Moscheles, a renowned pianist and composer.

This album was recorded in Prague at Domovina Studio between December 2008 and January 2009.

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, raised in a Jewish household, had to immerse himself in Western culture, including three languages and various arts and humanities, between the ages of eight and fifteen.
Composition History
Mendelssohn's chamber music includes 25 significant scores, ranging from duo to octet, and is considered the least-disputed part of his oeuvre.
Composer Biography
By the age of twenty, Mendelssohn had already produced enough masterpieces to ensure his immortality, despite not having the scholastic preparation or paternal support that Mozart had.
Composition History
The String Quintet No. 2, Op. 87, was requested by Ferdinand David, Konzertmeister of the Gewandhaus orchestra in Leipzig, who also premiered Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.
