Laurène Helstroffer Durantel plays a Brescian double bass from 1650 and a prototype bow designed by herself and made by Tristan Gouhoury, a bow-maker and engraver.
Interpretation
The double bass on this recording uses an A-D-G-C tuning, a fourth above the norm, which dates back to the 18th century, to achieve a more emotional, smaller, and faster sound.
