Stimmwerck, a vocal ensemble founded in Munich in 2001, consists of sought-after specialists in ensemble singing: tenors Gerhard Hölzle and Klaus Wenk, bass baritone Marcus Schmidl, and countertenor Franz Vitzthum.

David Erler, an alto on this recording, is a scholarship recipient of the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung Munich and studied voice in Leipzig, focusing on early music and historical performance practice.

The recordings by the vocal ensemble Stimmwerck were produced in conjunction with a musicological research project at the University of Vienna.

The name 'Stimmwerck' derives from Michael Praetorius's teaching manual 'Syntagma Musicum' and refers to a group of the same instruments or what is now called a chord.
