Composer Biography
Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) was a prolific composer, publishing no less than 102 opus numbers between 1724 and 1747, and was the first French composer to write chamber concertos and a concerto for a solo instrument with orchestral accompaniment.
Historical Context
Before the mid-17th century, there were no solo works published for the bassoon, despite it being considered a fundamental orchestral instrument.
