Composer Biography

Sofia Gubaidulina, the composer, studied piano and composition at the Kazan Conservatory and continued her composition studies at the Moscow Conservatory as a pupil of Nikolai Peiko, an assistant of Dmitri Shostakovich.

Composition History

The ensemble 'Glorious Percussion' adopted its name specifically because of Sofia Gubaidulina's concerto of the same name, which they world-premiered with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in 2008.

Performer Biography

Vadim Gluzman, the violinist on this recording, received encouragement and support from Isaac Stern early in his career and was awarded the prestigious Henryk Szeryng Foundation Career Award in 1994.
