Performer Biography

The Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Neil Thomson since 2014, is now considered one of the top three orchestras in Brazil, known for its energetic style and innovative programming.

Composition History

Guerra-Peixe composed his two Symphonic Suites in 1955, inspired by folk music from the São Paulo and Pernambuco regions after conducting extensive research into folk traditions.

Guerra-Peixe's Symphonic Suites balance Amerindian, Afro-Brazilian, and 'Western' inspirations, reflecting the myth of the three races that formed Brazil.

Performer Biography

Neil Thomson, the conductor, studied with Leonard Bernstein at Tanglewood Summer School and was the youngest person to hold the position of Professor of Conducting at the Royal College of Music, London.
