Oleg Komarnitsky received his formal musical education at the Central Music School for Especially Gifted Children, studying piano with Alexander Goldenweiser and composition with Igor Yakushenko and Aram Khachaturian.

The Sonata for Solo Cello in C minor was dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich, a renowned cellist, after Komarnitsky met him at the Moscow Conservatoire and received his thoughts on cello music.

Oleg Komarnitsky, a Soviet composer, was born in Moscow in 1946 and had eminent ancestors, including the Hungarian king Mátyás Hunyadi (Matthias Corvinus).

This album was made possible by the composer's daughter, Natalya Komarnitskaya, who promoted her father's music on LinkedIn, leading to the discovery of scores and the recording project.

Composition History

The Andante Amoroso, composed in 1996, was the last piece Komarnitsky wrote and is an experiment in musical communication, with Komarnitsky's violin part written over a Fantasia for piano by Leopold Mozart.

Composition History

Many of Komarnitsky's works, including his twelve duos for two violins and much music for children, were written for Muzyka, the largest music-publisher in the Soviet Union, where he worked as chief editor.
