Prelude-and-Fugue No. 13 in Book I is dedicated 'To a Convalescing Nation' in the hope of recovery from the malaise of 2020, using the Lydian mode associated with healing.
Composer's Artistic Vision
While Book I, 'Expanded Universe,' explores pitch-language with ordinary piano technique, Book II, 'Parallel Universes,' uses a more conservative pitch-language but an exploratory 'sound language' and approach to the instrument.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded at the UCLA Ostin Recording Studio in May 2023, utilizing two Yamaha CFX concert grands and a pair of New York Steinway B grands.

The second book of Preludes and Fugues by David S. Lefkowitz interrogates the very notion of the piano by using prepared piano techniques to evoke sounds of various instruments and traditions.
