This is the first time these works have been recorded by the Weimar Staatskapelle, paying tribute to its past and its prestigious Kapellmeister, Franz Liszt.
Composition History
The works on this album illustrate three aspects of Liszt's symphonic output in Weimar: an occasional piece, a symphonic poem, and a vast program symphony.
Performer Biography
Kirill Karabits, the conductor, was the General Music Director and Principal Conductor at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar from 2016/17 to 2018/19.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Liszt believed in creating "new forms for new ideas" in program music, which led him to invent the symphonic poem.
