Composition History

Michael Haydn's Requiem in C minor was written in late 1771 as an elegy for his baby daughter, Aloisia Josepha, who died before her first birthday, and for his patron, Prince-Archbishop Sigismund Graf Schrattenbach.

Composer Biography

Michael Haydn, the composer of these works, was the younger brother of the more famous Franz Joseph Haydn and was also a composition pupil of his older brother.
