The commissioned composers were asked to write a piece for recorder and string orchestra, or for string orchestra alone, expanding the contemporary concerto repertoire for the recorder.
Performer Biography
Michala Petri, the recorder soloist on this album, was a longtime family friend of Axel Borup-Jørgensen and like a 'second daughter' to him.
Notable Performances
The world premieres of the commissioned works took place at a sold-out concert on November 14, 2014, at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.
Recording & Production
The concert was recorded and video-taped for Danish National Radio and later broadcast across Europe, with the team immediately traveling to Lapland to record the program for this CD.

Axel Borup-Jørgensen, born in 1924, had a significant encounter with classical music in 1942 when his piano teacher showed him Beethoven's 'Moonlight' Sonata, which he described as a 'religious conversion'.
