Composition History
Jakob Buchanan's work "On Rosenhill" originated from a large-scale piece titled "The Voices from Rosenhill," which was commissioned for the opening ceremony of Aarhus 2017 - European Capital of Culture.
Compositional Technique
The work incorporates poems by South African poet Iain S. Thomas, which Jakob Buchanan discovered through his internet blog and found to be "very existential" and universally valid.

Jakob Buchanan, the composer, grew up in the Rosenhøj neighborhood, which he describes as a fascinating cultural melting pot and an "Eldorado of languages, colours and opportunities."
Historical Context
The original work, "The Voices from Rosenhill," accompanied a torchlit procession in Aarhus where illuminated Viking ships displayed faces of young people from the 'Rosenhøj' residential neighborhood.
