Buxton Orr (1924-97), the composer, initially qualified as a doctor before pursuing a musical education at the Guildhall School of Music in London.
Composition History
The works on this album, all recorded for the first time, cover a twenty-year period from 1977 to 1997 and represent Buxton Orr's complete output of chamber music for strings without piano.

This recording was supported by The RVW Trust, a charitable organization dedicated to promoting the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams and other British composers.
Composer Biography
Buxton Orr composed nine film scores, including for Tennessee Williams' 'Suddenly Last Summer', which he took over from an indisposed Malcolm Arnold.
Performer Biography
Barry Guy, a bass-player and composer featured on this album, was a student of Buxton Orr and later founded the London Jazz Composers' Orchestra, which Orr conducted.
