Unlike many Requiems, Łukaszewski's work omits the 'Dies irae' text, following the Second Vatican Council's decision to replace it with a joyful 'Alleluia'.

Łukaszewski's Requiem was commissioned by the Presteigne Festival in Wales and premiered on August 24, 2014.

Paweł Łukaszewski, born in 1968, comes from a musical family; his father Wojciech Łukaszewski was also a composer, and his brother Marcin Łukaszewski is a composer and pianist.

The commission for the Requiem came at a poignant time for Paweł Łukaszewski, who had experienced the loss of many friends, colleagues, and family members.
