The pianist, Giovanna Gatto, completed the unfinished Andante in E major, p006a, by adding two final bars to maintain stylistic and compositional unity with the other two Andantes.

Giovanna Gatto, the pianist on this album, has performed as a soloist and in chamber ensembles across Europe and has won numerous national and international prizes.

The Tre preludi sopra melodie gregoriane, Respighi's last solo piano work, marked a period of searching for a personal idiom and a 'spiritual need' for Gregorian chant.
Composer Biography
Ottorino Respighi, the composer, never formally studied piano, opting instead for organ classes and graduating in violin and composition.
Composition History
The Sonata in F minor, p016, was composed by Respighi in 1897-98 but was not discovered until the 1980s and premiered in 1986.
