1/6Recording & Production
This album is Duo Lontano's second recording for GENUIN classics, and like their first album of Mendelssohn works, it was recorded at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany.
Performer Biography
Duo Lontano, consisting of pianists Babette Hierholzer and Jürgen Appell, was founded in 2004 and has performed internationally, including with the Orquesta Juvenil Simón Bolívar and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Cuba.
Compositional Technique
The Fantasia in F minor, D. 940, features a highly ingenious Fugato in its final movement, which is actually a double fugue with two interlacing themes.
Composition History
The Notturno in E-flat major, D. 897, was likely written by Schubert in 1828 and may have been intended as the original slow movement for his E-flat major Piano Trio, D. 898.
Composition History
Schubert's Fantasia in F minor, D. 940, one of his most important piano works, was written in the months leading up to his death in 1828 and dedicated to his student and friend Caroline von Esterházy.
Composer Biography
Franz Schubert, who composed the works on this album, was already ill and despondent in 1824, four years before his death, yet still full of plans for the future.
