1/7Composer Biography
Composer Peter Bruun, who lived in the nearby city of Ribe, found inspiration for his pieces on this album in the atmosphere, history, and natural surroundings of Løgumkloster Abbey Church.
Compositional Technique
Morten Olsen's piece 'The Dark Room' is a remix or recomposition of selected elements and fragments from the other works on this album, transforming their sound and tone.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen's 'Stralsund' is inspired by the 'Black Sun' phenomenon, where huge flocks of starlings darken the sky, and explores the flight of birds from a close-up, individual perspective.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The album's starting point is the human capacity to sense a space through hearing, as sounds help our brain form an impression of our surroundings.
Composition History
The idea for this album came from flautist Eva Østergaard, who wanted to make Løgumkloster Church, a medieval Cistercian abbey in Denmark known for its strong acoustics, a 'living player' in the music.
Recording & Production
Flautist Eva Østergaard's many flutes were recorded 'layer on layer' with different placements in the space, creating an impression of a constantly changing physical and mental space.
Recording & Production
Unorthodox recording methods were used for this album, with constant variations in microphone and instrument placement within the church, its passages, adjacent rooms, and even outdoors.
