Dmitri Shostakovich composed his first piano trio in 1923 at the age of 17, while he was a music student at the conservatory in his native city.

Tchaikovsky initially disliked the combination of piano with violin or cello, stating it was 'torture' to listen to such works.
Performer Biography
The Evrus Trio, named after the Greek God of the East Wind, was founded in 2000 by three young musicians who met while studying at the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater.

Performer Biography
The Evrus Trio has won awards at the 1st International Joseph Haydn Piano Trio Competition in Vienna and the International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan.
Composition History
Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio is dedicated to the memory of his friend Nikolai Rubinstein, who died unexpectedly at age 45 in March 1881.
